Starting in January 2020, we began developing a series of creative spaces for youth to share their insights and ideas on how to accelerate the low-carbon transition here in Canada and #MoveTheNeedle on climate conversations. When programming shifted online in response to COVID-19 safety measures, and to address the difficult task of replacing in-person connections, we worked with a cohort of five young creatives to establish a virtual art gallery. Young artists are particularly precarious workers, often reliant on exhibiting work and residencies for income and continued opportunities to practice their craft. As an industry that has been particularly hit by COVID-19-induced changes, we prioritized engaging their unique perspectives in order to make space for artists within the climate movement. Through their diverse narratives, we invite you to consider the varied scales that we can take climate action towards a low-carbon economy. In recognizing that our “normal” is evolving, we challenge you to consider the creative futures we want to imagine and grow together.
