Kate Ashwood
IMPACT MANAGER
Halifax / Mi'kma'ki
As Impact Manager Kate leads the measurement, evaluation and learning (MEL)of the organization and communications strategies to amplify organizational impact. She also manages the Activate (You)th fee for service, collaborations and partnerships.
Kate is a curious problem solver who is passionate about building community resilience to climate change. Specifically, she hopes to contribute towards improving food security for all.
Kate grew up in Ottawa (Anishinabe and Algonquin territory) engaging in local and global social justice movements. This continued when she completed her B.A. (Hon) in International Development and Political Science at the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University in Halifax (Mi'kma'ki). Through informal and formal learning settings she learned (and continues to learn) about the intersectionality of climate change with systemic social injustice.
When not working, you can find Kate planning her next adventure, swimming, reading or learning how to cook a new recipe to feed her friends with.
I am a white settler currently living and working in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. I am committed to a lifelong journey of learning and working towards truth, reconciliation, and equity. Work by Robin Wall Kimmerer, Dina Gilio-Whitaker, Kotuku Titihuai Nuttall and Patrice Newell has guided my journey so far, and look forward to continuing to learn how to live more collaboratively with the land I reside on, in gratitude to the Indigenous peoples who have been living here, in relationship with every facet of our ecosystem, long before the arrival of settlers.
I also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and offer gratitude to those ancestors of African descent who came before us to this land.
