HerStart: Innovate the Future collaborative initiative, led by Youth Challenge International and funded by Global Affairs Canada, is a program designed to foster and create innovative solutions to advance gender equity and work towards a more climate-resilient and prosperous economy within Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda. The program includes training and support for aspiring entrepreneurs in social enterprise, gender responsive business planning, measurement of social impact of business activities, and access to finance.
HerStart supports and catalyzes locally-driven solutions with the support of Canadian volunteers (fellows), and aims to engage 10,000 youth ages 15-35, with the goal of 80% of those engaged, women.
As one of Youth Challenge International’s design and delivery partners, YCL supports and trains fellows on climate action and green entrepreneurship, alongside supporting build the capacity of partner organizations through activities that are co-designed and co-delivered based on each community’s unique experiences and needs.
Youth volunteers (fellows) are trained and engaged by YCL and the partner organizations to support on the ground initiatives and offer additional support in climate action, gender equity, entrepreneurship, communications, and MEL (monitoring, measuring, and learning) through on-site placements.

In collaboration with HerStart and Youth Challenge International, we have developed a resource called the Multi-solving Tool.
The Multi-solving Tool guides users to design projects that address multiple community needs and gaps simultaneously using the principles of multi-solving, which seeks to find solutions to interconnected problems, producing multiple benefits in health, justice, equity, resilience, and wellbeing.
