Our FutureXChange program was designed to connect and equip youth to create their own community projects – grounded in Traditional Knowledge and climate policy – to help local communities increase their engagement and adapt to a rapidly changing climate.
FXC is the first program of its kind in Canada, and was created in partnership with the Gwich’in Tribal Council and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Of the fifteen youth participants, half were selected from Gwich’in communities and the other half from Southern Canada. The program kicked off in fall 2019 with a Traditional Knowledge gathering for Gwich'in youth and several weeks of online policy training offered to all participants. This helped prepare them for the facilitated workshops and activities at the final convening in Inuvik, NWT.
After completing the workshops and activities, the participants dispersed back across the country in their role as “Community Activators.” To read more about them and their projects, check out their blog posts here.
You can access the FXC Final Reports here, in English, en français, and an Executive Summary in Gwich’in.
