Summer Season Highlights

Our Summer Season programming included a virtual session about climate emotions, and an in-person workshop in Calgary about environmental inequity. Check out Summer 2023 program highlights below!

Session 2: Climate Emotions Meditation and Climate Circle with Bonita Ford

Following our successful in-person workshop, we offered a virtual session titled “From Fear and Anxiety to Hope and Healing: Engaging with Climate Emotions.” Hosted by Bonita Ford (she/her), this session took the form of a casual circle discussion, allowing participants to open up about the range of emotions they experience when thinking about the climate crisis. This session offered an opportunity for participants to build community with other young BIPOC folks and engage with climate emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Session 1:

Black Eco Bloom x FRTS In-Person Workshop on Environmental Inequity in Calgary

Our From Root to Sky summer program opened with an in-person workshop in Calgary hosted in partnership with Black Eco Bloom. This workshop examined environmental inequity in Calgary through a systems-thinking lens and offered a platform for participants to identify and discuss the ways that environmental inequity has manifested in their own communities. Through exploring these manifestations, this workshop offered ways to challenge, combat and reimagine the ways in which our communities are developed.

Participant Testimonials

“I appreciate the knowledge and expertise that the presenters have mentioned in the session. The theme that I've learned throughout the session is exploring YYC's urban planning and space and their relations to various racial groups present in the city. The presentation was well organized discussing the honest opinions and viewpoints of the presenters.”

- Session 1 Attendee

“The session went great! I loved the question and answer portion as the presenters and attendees had parallel viewpoints and opinions. The session was very accommodating for newcomers and first timers.”
