Fall Season Highlights

Check out highlights from our Fall 2023 season, where we hosted short-film screenings, discussed food systems and oppression, learned about environmental policy, and much more!

Session 2: Anti-Oppression, Climate Justice, and Food Systems

In this interactive workshop on the intersection of climate action, racial justice, and land sovereignty, participants engaged in new ways of thinking about and reflecting on our food systems. Participants were prompted to challenge their current perspectives on our food systems and gained a deeper understanding of the inherently political nature of food. This session was facilitated by Jade Guthrie (she/her), a queer, mixed-race food justice educator and community organizer.

Session 4: Environmental Racism and Demystifying Bill c-226

As Bill C-226 (National Strategy on Environmental Racism and Environmental Justice Act) returned to the Senate, this session was hosted to demystify what exactly Bill C-226 is, and to explore what environmental racism looks like in so-called Canada. Participants engaged in a workshop and discussion hosted by Afro-Indigenous climate justice and Indigenous rights activist Janelle Lapointe (she/her).

Session 1: Perspectives on Land and Art

Our first session of the Fall Season was an interactive workshop hosted with celebrated multimedia artist KC Adams (she/her). In this session, participants explored how art can be used as a tool to build a relationship with the land, and collectively explored different mediums of land-based art.

Session 3: Climate Emotions Short Film Screening

This special session was a screening of two short films: “Embers of Hope” created by Bonita Ford, and “Climate Stories” created by Sage Palmedo. Both films explored the impacts of climate change on our emotions. The double film screening was followed by group discussion and a grounding exercise led by the films’ creators.

Session 5: End of Year Wellness Practice

For our final session of the Fall Season, we hosted an end-of-year wellness practice to allow participants to reflect on the year behind and set intentions for the year ahead. With the guidance of facilitator Shully Sappire (they/she), participants were able to ground themselves in a community space and create some intentional time for self care.

Participant Testimonials

“The facilitators were empathetic, non-judgemental and warm. I felt comfortable and heard being guided by them throughout the session”

- Session 3 Attendee

“The space was warm and there was a lot of connection and understanding between everyone. I was skeptical about digital healing spaces and how they can provide comfort and moments of gratitude however I [left] the session feeling rerooted and loved every part of it!”

- Session 3 Attendee

“It felt like a space for knowledge-sharing and honest perspectives, which I really appreciated.”
